catsinbutter asked: What do you think will happen to the community of Guild Wars players when Guild Wars 2 comes out? Do you think the former game will become a ghost town with only a few hundred people on it, the population between the two games will become balanced, there'll be a lot of hardcore retro gamers who will stay with GW, etc?

That’s really going to be hard to predict. I believe that Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 are so different that they’ll each keep the interest of different types of gamers. Believe it or not, I’ve heard folks say “Well, GW2 is nothing like Guild Wars, I’m not really that into it.”

I think GW1 will take a hit in overall population, but there will be folks rooted to that game enough to continue playing that as their main game, or alongside of GW2. Especially since you can continue to earn from the Hall of Monuments (I believe) even after GW2 is released.

The same happened with Everquest — the original EQ is still going strong even after the release of EQ2. Part of that is simply because the two games are quite different. Part of it is because new content is still being released for the original EQ.

The fate of GW will partially lay in the hands of A-net and how much attention they give the original game after GW2 is released. What do you guys think?
